Shabaka And The Ancestors rings out the new year with a fascinating, spiritual jazz record Wisdom of Elders, it's a wonderful record in the spirit of Kamasi Washingtion's The Epic. Led by Shabaka Hutchings, who played in the Sun Ra Arkestra in 2014, and has taken that experience and found his voice. Hutchings travelled from the UK to Johannesburg to record Wisdom of Elders, and explained that he enlisted the assist of South African musicians ‘… to present the musical language that [he] normally associate[s] with [his] UK bands in the context of SA musicians and musical sensibilities’. Gilles Peterson released Wisdom of Elders on his Brownswood Recordings imprint.
